The historic city of Alcala la Real is situated in the southern hills of Jaen Province. Think of Jaen, think unspoilt wilderness (it’s been described as Europe’s largest national park), think castles (literally more than any other province), think olive ... groves (the world capital of olive oil production)... The beauty of Jaen’s diverse landscape is simply breathtaking and this, together with the quiet, undulating (well maintained) roads, make it the perfect choice for discovering this less travelled part of Andalucia, on four wheels or two (or two feet). There are many established routes for cycling and hiking, probably the most famous that takes in Alcala la Real is the GR7 (Gran Recorrido Siete). It is also one of the destinations for pilgrims following the Camino Mozarabe route, heading north to Santiago de Compostella. Alcala la Real was given its royal (Real) title by Alfonso XI of Castile (1341) and its city status by King John II (1432). However, with a population of around 22,000, it feels more like a small working town and you will hear it referred to as such, some locals even call it the village... As you approach Alcala la Real from any direction the skyline is dominated by the magnificent Fortaleza de la Mota, a fortress that marked the border between the kingdoms of Granada and Castille for over 150 years. It truly is a wonderful place to visit and the views are spectacular. Situated en-route between the cities of Granada and Cordoba, it is the perfect location. Our whole ethos is based on a love of tradition, of craftmanship, the bold use of colour and an eclectic approach to interior design. We endeavour to retain an authentic look & feel, a warm and welcoming atmosphere and of course allow you to experience a unique combination of Yorkshire and Guyanese hospitality (and humour)... The facilities at Atelier88 Boutique B&B really are second to none, comprising a beautiful Ecoclimatic Saltwater Swimming Pool, TV & Music Salón with Google Play, a selection of books & games, free WiFi and a Summer Kitchen where tea, coffee and water is provided free. On the first floor we have two guest spaces, primarily used for short stays for people passing through or visiting family. DALI Studio apartment accommodates 1/2 adults only. Situated at the top of Calle Real (957m above sea level) with free on-street parking we are just a short walk (4/5 minutes) from the Fortaleza de la Mota and the countryside. There are places of interest, shops, theatre, cafe-bars within a 5/10 ten minute walk and you can reach the centre of Alcala la Real on foot in 15 minutes. Here you will find more places to shop, eat and drink and take in the vibe of an authentically Spanish, working city. You can stock up cheaply on almost everything you need at Tuesday's market and relax in the park which hosts numerous events throughout the year,. The main annual event is ETNOSUR, the whole of Alcala becomes a venue for world music, theatre & art. Please note that Queenie & Carlos, our dogs live here but have restricted access.
